General requirements

The Order employs only those of lawful and good or neutral morality. An interview with an officer of the Order, in the presence of a Truthseeker Liaison, will determine past conduct and present morality. Background checks are conducted before the cadet is promoted to constable.

Constables must be able to communicate with whomever they encounter. Common is the Imperial standard language. Proficiency with common must be demonstrated before entering the Order.

A Guild officer with Advanced Law proficiency will administer the law aptitude test. Similar to the test administered to beginning law students, this test determines an understanding of basic legal principles and ensures that the student is conversant with Basic Confederacy Law.

Martial ability is a requirement for most positions in the Order. Generally, only warriors and priests are accepted.

The Obligations of a Constable

Active duty members of the Order of the Sword may be housed in Order barracks, eat in the Order mess, and are cared for in the Order infirmaries. Any members not electing, or not able to do so, will receive funds equivalent to the Order's normal expenditures on their behalf (5 linert/day).

Active duty is a full time commitment. Constables are expected to serve in the Order on a daily basis, and will be assigned various duties, which occupy approximately 10 hours a day, four days a week. Attendance of formations, drills, and other functions are mandatory.

Reserve members are generally the local law enforcement representatives and magistrates of smaller communities, maintaining a profession in addition their commitment to the Order. They may be housed in Order barracks while on active duty, eat in the Order mess, and receive treatment in the Order infirmaries.

Reserve members of the Order of the Sword commit to two days a month and one month a year of active service. In addition, the reserve constable is expected to act as a representative of the Confederation wherever he may be, enforcing and promoting the Code of Imperial Law.

Once a month, Reserve members are required to report to an Order base for a period of two days for the purposes of drill, training, and inspection. Weapons and movement drill, both individual and unit, is conducted. Law and military skills are refined through training, and the member hones their basic skills as a Constable of the Order. Uniforms and issued equipment are inspected. Damaged equipment is repaired or replaced at the cost of the soldier or the Order, as appropriate.

During their month of service, they must abide by all the restrictions of an active duty soldier and receive the same benefits.

A reserve member will be assigned to a unit in a major near his place of residence, if possible.
