Benefits of the Scions

Proposed Non-Weapon Proficiency Benefits:

Forest Survival for one slot cost.
If the following minimum attributes are met:
      CON: 12 and STR: 11
then the training will be 100% effective, otherwise DM discretion will be needed.

In order to receive the benefit players will need to travel to Magmaville and spend 10 weeks training with Master Sharku. The training will culminate with a two week trek into the forest with no supplies (-1 week per Int. over 12). In addition to the reduced-slot benefit Survival-Forest NWP, those characters that already posess an NWP in Survival (other than Forest) will increase their degree of survivability and chances to aid others in their chosen areas. So, for one slot, a character can gain Forest Survival and their previous Survival ability would be increased.

Herbalism for one slot cost, if the following minimum attributes are met:
      WIS and INT: 11
then the training will be 100% effective, otherwise DM discretion will be needed.

In order to receive the benefit players will need to travel to Boardertown and spend 6 weeks training with Master Bergoron. The training will culminate with an exam consisting of 35 different herbs to name and describe the traits of each. (-1 week per Int over 14)

Detect Deceit for two slot cost
Check = WIS (-1)

After 2 months of training in Cross-Cultural Studies, Scionists will be able to detect the small idiosyncratic movements of the face and body posture, be able to tell if someone is telling an untruth, or giving false information. When dealing with people that speak a different language than that native to the Scion, the check is made at -3. If the language is completely unknown, the modifier is still only -3 since body language still helps to detect deceit.

In addition to their Cross-Cultural Studies training, those characters with an extensive background of in-depth experience with a given culture or race will receive a bonus to their check. This in-depth experience is defined as: "Extensive exposure to the culture and various classes within the racial setting. A minimum of 15 years of adult/mature interaction at the variety of class-tiers would be requisite for qualification."

New Abilities
Cross-Cultural Studies
Minimum requirements for the training to be 100% effective (otherwise DM discretion will be needed):
      INT: 8
After 4 months of training through study and socratic debate the student will have gained a better understanding of all Thardferr races. This gives one knowledge about political, social and cultural details.

Mediation
Minimum requirements for the training to be 100% effective (otherwise DM discretion will be needed):
      WIS: 11 and CHA: 13
The Scionist will be trained to use a level-headed demeanor to convince arguing sides that he/she can resolve their disagreements in an impartial mediation. A successful roll will convince sides to agree to a mediation, or cause them to lose 1 degree of hostility.

In addition, those students that come to the Scions already possessing the NWP's "Ancient History", "Local History", "Etiquette", and "Heraldry" will gain additional benefits to their "Cross-Cultural Studies" and "Mediation" abilites with the specified races/classes that they have chosen in their NWP's (when dealing with histories). As time progresses, those students who have already completed the mediation and cross-cultural studies programs will have a chance to return to training if they learn the before mentioned NWP's. The time required for training of the usefulness of this new knowledge will be one month per NWP added.
