OpenRPG Installation

Do this in order - DO NOT JUMP AROUND!

Step 1.
Download and install Python (latest version)
Do NOT change anything that the default settings suggest. Simply click NEXT -> NEXT -> NEXT -> FINISH

Step 2.
Download and install wxPython (latest version)
Do NOT change anything that the default settings suggest. Simply click NEXT -> NEXT -> NEXT -> FINISH

You can choose to restart your computer at the prompting now, but you do NOT have to. If anything, do it AFTER you have completed Step 3, so the system .cabs and .dll's can identify the version of OpenRPG you're running and properly attach themselves to that file directory.

Step 3.
Download and install OpenRPG (latest version)
Do NOT change anything that the default settings suggest. Simply click NEXT -> NEXT -> NEXT -> FINISH

Now, depending on whether you did or did not restart your computer, you are ready to launch OpenRPG. If you're in Windows XX, you should have a shortcut window that has popped up. Pull that shortcut snake icon to the desktop and leave it there. From here on out, all you need to do is double-click on that snake and it will launch.

Using OpenRPG If installed correctly, you should be able to start the program by using one of two methods, the desktop shortcut or the Start->Program list. Once you choose OpenRPG, two things should happen.
  1. A black MS-DOS window will pop-up titled Python. Depending on your system speed, this will minimize on its own soon (be patient).
  2. The OpenRPG logo will appear
After the OpenRPG logo appears, you should get the following window sprawled across your screen.

Step 1
To connect to a Game Server, select the GAME SERVER menu (follow the red line). This will give you two options, you want the first option, BROWSE SERVERS.
After you select that, the Game Server dialogue box should display.

Step 2
To the left side of the window is the list of running Game Servers currently active. Select the Server that most piques your interest by highlighting it.

Step 3
Once that is done, hit the CONNECT button to connect to that Game Server.

After you connect to the Game Server, you will see the following window pop-up, that of the LOBBY. If you wish, you can close the Game Server dialogue box by clicking on Close Window, located in the lower right-hand corner.

Welcome to the Lobby
This is where you will find most of the people that are just chatting, hanging out, or even playing games. This will be your main control center while you use OpenRPG. We won't get into the details of any of this, but we do suggest you read through their tutorial. It's well written, humorous and full of good information.
Mouse over the four seperate windows in the above image to see a description.

Step 4
When you have had your roleplaying fill and feel like exiting the Lobby, simply click back on Game Server in the top menu bar, and select Browse Servers and then select Disconnect.

The Game Tree is where you insert, access and send files as well as develop character sheets. The Map Window is where you can see a map with miniatures, use a whiteboard, and make drawings. This let's you see who is in the room and you can whisper to them from here as well. This is the Main Chat Window. In addition to built-in dice rollers, you can do a variety of things with status, names, colors, etc. here. This is where you type your text, roll dice and format your text.
